Welcome to Navy Region Naval District Washington. "The Quarterdeck of the Navy."  With the nation's capital at its heart, Naval District Washington encompasses more than 4,000 square miles, including the District of Columbia; the Maryland counties of Anne Arundel, Calvert, Charles, Frederick, Montgomery, Prince George's, and St. Mary's, and northern Virginia counties of Loudoun, Fauquier, Fairfax, Prince William, Stafford King George, Westmoreland, Arlington and the cities within their outer boundaries.

  • Supports foreign diplomatic visits and ceremonies within the Greater National Capital Region (NCR).
  • Serves as a proactive and anticipatory component to Joint Task Force NCR and partners with all local, state and federal agencies within the Region.

WASHINGTON (September 27, 2024) - A Chief select is officially pinned to the rank of Chief by family and mentors during a Chief Pinning Ceremony at the U.S. Navy Memorial. The rank of chief petty officer was created April 1, 1893, and the chief petty officer pinning ceremony is a unique tradition to the U.S. Navy that signifies promotion to a crucial position of leadership and responsibility.
