NSA ANNAPOLIS WINS 2024 NDW INSTALLATION EXCELLENCE AWARD, MOVES TO NAVY-WIDE COMPETITION

 Commandant, Naval District Washington (NDW), Rear Adm. David Faehnle has named Naval Support Activity Annapolis the NDW regional winner of the Installation Excellence Award (Small) of the Year for 2024.

ANNAPOLIS, Md. – Commandant, Naval District Washington (NDW), Rear Adm. David Faehnle has named Naval Support Activity Annapolis the NDW regional winner of the Installation Excellence Award (Small) of the Year for 2024. The award recognizes the outstanding work of those who operate and maintain Navy shore commands. 

 

Four other installations compete for the Installation Excellence Award within NDW. Two of those installations compete against NSA Annapolis in the small installation category and were judged on quality of installation management, program excellence, and community outreach. 

 

All NDW installations compete to demonstrate their proficiency in categories like mission support, energy, quality of life, environment, communications, safety and health, security and protection. 

 

Achievements that helped NSA Annapolis win this award include: 

  • Developed and executed a Naval Academy Dairy Farm Renewable Energy Initiative community engagement strategy, including targeted engagements with federal, state, and local elected officials and local environmental non-profits; hosting an information session and two industry days; issuing two press releases, developing a website, and authoring an Op-Ed in the Capital Gazette. 

  • Awarded a $10 million construction contract to fully baffle the NSA Annapolis Small Arms Range, in an effort to improve safety of the range, reduce risk to both military personnel and the public recreating on Greenbury Point, and improve safe use of land and waterways. 

  • Hosted the first Joint Service Academies Symposium (JSAIS) for the United States Military Academy, United States Air Force Academy, United States Coast Guard Academy, and United States Naval Academy. 

  • Placed 2nd across the CNIC Enterprise for the 2024 IEA (Small) Installation; selected as NDW’s (Small) Installation of the Year.

  • Executed first Military Installation Resilience Plan project and seawall reconstruction this century – Farragut Seawall with a congressionally enacted $37 million. 

  • First CNIC installation to host Operation MWR with the Grammy Award-winning artist “Switchfoot”. 

  • Ranked #1 NDW installation in energy savings. 

  • Developed program requirements for the accelerated Bancroft Hall Recapitalization Program with utility upgrades, repairing deterioration, increasing installation and energy resilience, and reducing life cycle costs, and awarded over $40 million to plan, design and execute the initial phase of this project.  

  • Set the standard for Special Event Antiterrorism Plans supporting the United States Naval Academy mission and its evolution into a special events venue.
