Captain David Adams

Captain Adams is a native of Beaumont, Texas and was commissioned in 1997 from the University of San Diego NROTC program with a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration with an emphasis in Finance.

His first assignment was onboard USS ANCHORAGE as Combat Information Center Officer and Weapons Officer. He next served as Reactor Controls Division Officer in USS ABRAHAM LINCOLN. Upon completing Department Head (DH) School, he served as Operations Officer in USS CURTS where the ship received the Battle Efficiency Award for 2006, completing counter narco-terrorism operations in the eastern Pacific Ocean. His second DH tour was as Reactor Training Assistant in USS NIMITZ where the ship received the Battle Efficiency Award for 2007, completing two deployments to the Arabian Gulf. His Executive Officer tour serving LCS Crew 111 “IRON WARRIORS” was completed in mighty USS FREEDOM April 2016. Captain Adams took command of USS FORT WORTH and the IRON WARRIORS in October 2016.  After a very successful Exchange of Command on FORT WORTH, he assumed command of USS DETROIT in March 2017. In November 2018, he assumed responsibilities as the 11th Reactor Officer in USS JOHN C. STENNIS, where JCS preformed a 2019 Around-the-World deployment receiving the 2019 Battle Efficiency Award for COMNAVAIRLANT. 
Ashore, CAPT Adams served as Port Operations Officer, Naval Station Everett responsible for all ship’s services and port assignments for high-visibility civilian festivals and events like the Seattle Seafair and the Portland Rose Festival. He next served as USS NIMITZ Maintenance Coordinator, COMNAVAIRPAC and as an analyst in the Office of the Under Secretary of Defense for Acquisition, Technology, and Logistics (AT&L), Acquisition Resources and Analysis directorate, at the Pentagon in Washington, D.C. He commanded Fleet Activities Sasebo September 2020 to September 2023 supporting the Fleet, the Community, and our Families. He assumed the position of Chief of Staff for Naval District Washington in April 2024 after being temporarily assigned to Navy Closure Task Force as the Chief of Staff. 

He is a 2005 graduate of University of Washington Business School and holds a master's degree in Business Administration. He has also completed JPME II at the Joint Forces Staff College and is certified as a Joint Specialty Officer (JSO).

CAPT Adams personal awards include the Office of the Secretary of Defense Identification Badge, Legion of Merit, Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Meritorious Service Medal with two gold stars, Navy Commendation Medal with two gold stars, Navy Achievement Medal with gold star. He also holds the Order of the Rising Sun, Gold Rays with Neck Ribbon, awarded by the Emperor of Japan.
