Captain David "Donny" Wilson

Captain David Wilson is a native of Portsmouth, Virginia and a 1999 graduate of the University of Virginia earning a BS in Electrical Engineering. He also holds a Master’s degree in National Security from the Naval War College and a Master’s in Business Administration from the Naval Postgraduate School.  In addition, he completed a Service Chief’s Fellowship at DARPA. Operationally, he commanded the Scorpions of Helicopter Maritime Strike Squadron FOUR NINE (HSM-49) flying the MH-60R. Previous operational assignments include HSL-49, where he served as squadron operations officer and deployed with USS Rentz (FFG 46) as detachment officer-in-charge. Additionally he deployed twice with USS Boxer (LHD 4) as Handler and Mini Boss. At HSL-43 he deployed with USS Mobile Bay (CG 53), USS Paul F. Foster (DD 964), USS Shoup (DDG 86), and USS Howard (DDG 83).

Ashore and staff assignments include HSM-41 where he served as schedules officer and operations officer earning Instructor Pilot of the Year.  On the Joint Staff he served as Presidential Strike Advisor on Operations Team One in the NMCC, J-33 directorate.  He served as the Executive Assistant to the Chief of Naval Research/OPNAV N-94 and later as Assistant Chief of Naval Research at ONR. He then served as N3D at Commander, Naval Installations Command.  He took command of Naval Support Activity South Potomac in June of 2023. Captain Wilson has accumulated over 2300 flight hours and 595 shipboard landings in the MH-60R and SH-60B.  He is authorized to wear the Legion of Merit, Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Meritorious Service Medal, and Air Medal Strike Category I.
