Captain Alan Christian

Captain Alan Christian is a native of Baltimore, Maryland.  He attended Pennsylvania State University in State College, Pennsylvania earning a Bachelor of Science Degree in Health Policy and Administration and received Minors in Business Administration, Gerontology, and Labor Relations. After graduating Pennsylvania State University, Christian worked as a healthcare administrator obtaining his Masters in Health Care Administration from St. Joseph’s University, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

Christian reported to Officer Indoctrination School in Newport, Rhode Island in April 1998.  His first assignment was at Naval Hospital, Lemoore, California. He was selected to attended Fiscal and Material Management Training Course in January 1999 and upon his return was assigned as the Comptroller/Director for Resources and acting Supply Officer.  During this tour he was promoted to Lieutenant.

In 2001, he reported aboard USS BATAAN (LHD 5), home ported in Norfolk, Virginia where he served as the Medical Administration Officer. During this assignment, he deployed in support of Operation Enduring Freedom and earned his Surface Warfare Medical Department Officer qualification and designation. 

Selected for duty under instruction, Christian attended the Naval Postgraduate School and the Navy War College in Monterey, California, where he earned a Masters in Business Administration degree and completed his Joint Professional Military Education Phase One in June 2004.  In July 2004, he reported to the Bureau of Medicine and Surgery, Washington, D.C. where he served in the Comptroller/Resource Management (M8) Code as a Fiscal Officer in the Budget Division. He was selected for Lieutenant Commander during the fiscal year 2006 promotion cycle.

In December 2006, Christian reported to Naval Health Clinic, Quantico, Virginia as the Head of Patient Administration, and was the Medical Operations Officer for the 32nd Marine Corps Marathon.  During his tour, he deployed to the Expeditionary Medical Facility, Kuwait in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom.  Upon his return, he served as the Acting Director for Administration and was selected to serve as the Director for Administration, U.S. Naval Hospital Guantanamo Bay, Cuba. 

Christian served as the Director for Administration, U.S. Naval Hospital Guantanamo Bay, Cuba.  During this tour, he was selected for Commander for the fiscal year 2011 promotion cycle, and was selected to serve as the Director for Administration, Naval Hospital Camp Pendleton, California. He reported to Naval Hospital Camp Pendleton in July 2011. During this tour, he was selected to serve as the Officer in Charge of Naval Branch Health Clinic, Diego Garcia. While serving in Diego Garcia, Christian was selected for the position of Director for Administration, Naval Medical Center San Diego, California. He reported to Naval Medical Center San Diego in July 2015.  During this tour he was promoted to Captain and selected as Executive Officer, Naval Medical Center, Camp Lejeune, North Carolina.

Christian reported to Naval Medical Center, Camp Lejeune, North Carolina in May 2019.

From there, he was selected for and served as Commander of Navy Medicine Readiness and Training Command/Naval Hospital, Pensacola, Florida, starting in May of 2021.

Captain Christian assumed command of NSA Bethesda in April of 2023.
