Senior Chief Felix, a native of Tucson, Arizona, enlisted in the U.S. Navy in March 2000, and after boot camp at Recruit Training Command in Great Lakes, Illinois he attended basic enlisted submarine school and electronics technician “A” school at Naval Submarine School, Groton, Connecticut. He is a graduate of the Senior Enlisted Academy course 231, and Command Master Chief / Chief of the Boat class 21110.
At sea he reported for duty as a radioman onboard USS Houston (SSN 713), USS Jefferson City (SSN 759), and USS Helena (SSN 725). He served as leading petty officer at Submarine Development Squadron Five Detachment Undersea Research and Development, and Department Leading Chief Petty Officer at Naval Research Laboratory Sea Component.
His shore assignments include a tour as Communications Watch Officer at Commander Task Force Six Nine; as Submarine Communications Electronics Technician detailer at Navy Personnel Command; and as Placement Coordinator and Rating Evaluator for the Submarine community at Navy Personnel Command.
His personal awards include the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (four awards), Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (3 awards), and various unit, campaign, and service awards.
