Coury’s fleet assignments included deployments from both coasts as well as Japan in VAQ-141 embarked aboard USS Theodore Roosevelt (CVN 71); Flag Electronic Warfare Officer for Cruiser Destroyer Group ONE embarked aboard USS Constellation (CV 64); VAQ-136 embarked aboard USS Independence (CV 62) and USS Kitty Hawk (CV 63); Commanding Officer, VAQ-131 embarked aboard USS Constellation (CV 64) and USS Abraham Lincoln (CVN 72); Flag Operations Officer, Carrier Strike Group THREE embarked aboard USS John C. Stennis (CVN 74), and Chief of Staff , Carrier Strike Group ELEVEN embarked aboard USS NIMITZ (CVN 68). Coury’s shore assignments included Air Test and Evaluation Squadron FIVE in China Lake, California; Electronic Attack Wing Pacific in Oak Harbor, Washington; Executive Assistant to the Deputy Combined Forces Air Component Commander (DCFACC), stationed at the Combined Air Operations Center (CAOC) in Saudi Arabia; J33 Force Provider Branch Chief, Joint Forces Command, Norfolk, Virginia, and Commanding Officer, Naval Station Everett in Everett, Washington.
Coury’s military awards include the Defense Superior Service Medal, Legion of Merit (two awards), Bronze Star, Meritorious Service Medal (three awards), Air Medal with combat “V” (two awards), Strike Flight Air Medal (four awards), Joint Service Commendation Medal (two awards), Navy Commendation Medal (six awards, two with combat “V”), Navy Achievement Medal, and various unit and service awards. Coury is the recipient of the Commander, Naval Air Forces Leadership Award for 2005 (CVWP Prowler). He accumulated over 3,000 accident-free hours in various Navy jets, including over 2,600 hours in the EA-6B Prowler, to include 320 combat hours.
Coury retired from the Navy in 2015 at the rank of Captain after 30 years of service. Shortly after, he was hired at NAS Whidbey Island as the N5 and principle advisor to the Commanding Officer in Shore Installation Management (SIM) and Base Operating Support (BOS) where he was awarded the Department of the Navy Meritorious Civilian Service Award. Coury reported onboard NSA Annapolis in February 2021.
