Captain Homer Denius

Captain Denius is native of Tallahassee, Florida and raised in Big Horn, Wyoming. He was accepted to attend the U.S. Naval Academy where he graduated and received his commission in 1994. 

Following commissioning CAPT Denius’ first tour of duty was aboard USS Ardent (MCM 12), where he served as CIC Officer and later, the Operations Officer. In 1997, CAPT Denius reported to USS WASP (LHD 1) for his second Division officer tour where he served as the Fire Control Officer. 

In 2001, CAPT Denius attended the Surface Warfare Department Head School and subsequently reported to USS CARTER HALL (LSD 50) and served as the Operations Officer. In March 2003, CAPT Denius reported to his second Department Head tour aboard the USS BATAAN (LHD 5) where he deployed to the Arabian Gulf in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom. In October 2006, CAPT Denius reported to USS GERMANTOWN (LSD 42) as the Executive Officer where he deployed to the Northern Arabian Gulf with the TARAWA Expeditionary Strike Group. As captain of the USS PEARL HARBOR from July 2010 to July 2012 CAPT Denius completed two 7 month deployments in 2010 and 2011 in support of Operation Enduring Freedom and Counter-Piracy Operations. He completed his last command tour as Commander Amphibious Squadron THREE onboard both ESSEX Amphibious Ready Group and AMERICA Amphibious Ready Group in 2017.

Ashore CAPT Denius served as the Flag Lieutenant to the Commander, Amphibious Group Two; as a Congressional Fellow to Congressman Gene Taylor (MS), Chairman of the Seapower and Expeditionary Warfare Subcommittee; as the Chief of Legislative Affairs, U.S. Pacific Command and as the Maritime Operations Officer at Naval Surface Forces Pacific. Also ashore, he earned a Masters of Arts Degree in National Security and Strategic Studies with distinction from the Naval War College Newport, RI. 

His personal awards include the Defense Superior Service Medal, the Legion of Merit (two awards), the Meritorious Service Medal, the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (silver star in lieu of sixth award) and various unit and service awards.
