Walter Reed National Military Medical Center is undergoing a significant transformation as they replace outdated portions of the facility while remaining fully functional and continuing to provide safe, quality care. The Medical Center Additions and Alterations (MCAA) project is a multi-phased plan involving substantial renovations to two buildings and replacing nearly a third of the medical center with two new buildings.

04APR22: GATE OPERATIONS: To accommodate increased construction traffic tied to the MCAA project at WRNMMC, the following adjustments to NSA Bethesda gate hours are in effect:
GATE 5 - Open Monday through Friday as follows:
- 5 a.m. to 2 p.m. - Inbound commercial vehicles only
- 2 to 6 p.m. - Inbound and outbound vehicle traffic*
- 6 p.m. to 5 a.m. - As Needed: Inbound commercial vehicles only as necessary to support construction operations
*If commercial vehicle traffic is too heavy to facilitate outbound traffic, the NSA Bethesda Security Watch Commander may delay opening outbound lanes.
Overall Impact:
Noise: As of July 2021, the MCAA is not expected to create significant noticeable, continuous, or excessive noise.
Light Pollution: As of July 2021, the MCAA-related construction lighting is not expected to create disruptive light pollution.
