Parking Reduction Overview

SECNAV determined that the Navy’s preferred location for the new National Museum of the United States Navy would be on land adjacent to the Washington Navy Yard. Obtaining this land will reduce the encroachment threat posed by existing development rights and protect mission-critical activities conducted at the WNY from encroachment.

On 31 May 2024, the U.S. Navy closed on a Land Exchange Agreement (LEA) with developer Redbrick acquiring land adjacent to the northwest corner of the Washington Navy Yard (WNY). The Southeast Federal Center (SEFC) “E” will be exchanged for land at the southeast corner of the Navy Yard.

The loss of land on the southeast corner will necessitate the relocation of some tenants and reduce parking spaces available on the base by 1,494, as we lose 1004 parking spaces from B405 and 490 surface spaces
