CONSTRUCTION UPDATE #4 May 1, 2025

Progress Since Last Update:

  • Demolished 100% of wall in Phase 1
  • Demolished 90% of wall in Phase 2
  • Removed 80% of sidewalks and footers in Phase 1
  • Began assembly of Phase 1 footing rebar cages
Look Ahead (end of May):
  • Relocate City pump station controller
  • Demolish remaining wall in Phase 2
  • Remove remaining sidewalks and footers in Phase 1
  • Remove sidewalks and footers in Phase 2
  • Install rebar and footers in Phase 1
  • Begin construction of new wall in Phase 1


CONSTRUCTION UPDATE #3 March 26, 2025

  • Silt fencing and environmental controls installed
  • Utility location verification and test pitting complete
  • Major equipment delivered and staged onsite
  • Gate 4 removed
  • Maryland Department of Environmental Pre-Construction and Final inspection complete


Look Ahead (- end of April):

  • Wall demolition (to grade elevation) beginning on or about March 27, 2025
  • Removal of existing sidewalk pavers and curbs
  • Begin excavation for footer removal and new wall
  • Construction along Wagner St.


CONSTRUCTION UPDATE #2 February 14, 2025

  • Security Fence Installation: Security fencing has been installed on both the inside and outside of the wall to ensure a secure perimeter for USNA and to protect individuals from the active construction site.
  • Initial Excavation: Over the next few weeks, small excavation will begin to locate underground utilities. These excavations will be done by hand, using saws, and using a small excavator when necessary.
  • Phase 1 Demolition: Phase 1 demolition of the existing wall beginning at Gate 4 at the corner of Wagner St. and King George Ave. will begin on or about March 6, 2025. This demolition will be accomplished using concrete saws and excavators with grapple buckets. The demolished materia1 will be loaded into dump trucks and hau1ed off site.


CONSTRUCTION UPDATE #1 January 8, 2025

  • Vibration Monitoring: Vibration monitoring was conducted for 30 days in order to establish a baseline prior to the project beginning. Vibration monitoring will continue for the duration of the project.
  • Contractor Mobilization: During the week of January 13, residents will begin to see the contractor mobilizing. Activities may include placing signage, and staging equipment, barriers, and fencing.
  • Sidewalk Alterations: Project Phase 1 (Upper Wagner St.) and Phase 2 (Lower Wagner St. & Hanover St.) sidewalk closures will begin the week of January 27. The sidewalk on the USNA side of Wagner St. and on Hanover St. between Wagner St. and College Ave. will close.
  • Parking Alterations: Phases 1 and 2 will require the closure of 12 spaces on the residential side of Wagner St. and 12 spaces on the USNA side of Hanover St., beginning the week of January 27.
  • Traffic Flow Alterations: Phase 1 and 2 traffic flow alterations converting Wagner St. to one-way traffic towards Hanover St., Hanover St. to one-way traffic from Wagner St. to College Ave., and College Ave. to one-way traffic towards King George St. will begin the week of January 27.
