Environmental Assessment for the Contained Burn Facility at Naval Support Facility Indian Head
Pursuant to Section 102(2)(c) of the National Environmental Policy Act of 1969 (NEPA), the Department of the Navy gives notice that a Final Environmental Assessment (EA) has been prepared to evaluate the potential effects to the human and natural environment associated with construction and operation of a Contained Burn Facility (CBF) at Naval Support Facility (NSF) Indian Head in Indian Head, Maryland. The CBF would treat a large portion of energetic hazardous waste and military munitions that are currently processed at Strauss Avenue Thermal Treatment Point (SATTP).
Based on the Final EA, a Finding of No Significant Impact (FONSI) has been prepared and a determination made that an Environmental Impact Statement is not required. Both the Final EA and FONSI can be viewed at the links provided below.
