Environmental Assessment for the Underwater Test Tank Facility at Naval Support Facility Indian Head

Pursuant to Section 102(2)(c) of the National Environmental Policy Act of 1969 (NEPA), the Department of the Navy gives notice that a Final Environmental Assessment (EA) has been prepared to evaluate the potential impacts on the human and natural environment associated with construction and operation of a new aboveground Underwater Test Tank (UTT) facility at Naval Support Facility (NSF) Indian Head in Indian Head, Maryland. The UTT would be used to develop new Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) underwater technologies and energetic systems for Navy EOD divers.

Based on the Final EA, a Finding of No Significant Impact (FONSI) has been prepared and a determination made that an Environmental Impact Statement is not required. Both the Final EA and FONSI can be viewed at the links provided below.
