Washington Navy Yard Land Aquisition

On 31 May, 2024, The U.S. Navy closed on a Land Exchange Agreement (LEA) with developer Redbrick acquiring land adjacent to the northwest corner of the Washington Navy Yard (WNY), the Southeast Federal Center (SEFC) “E” parcels. The “E” parcels will be exchanged for land at the southeast corner of the Navy Yard. Obtaining this land will reduce the encroachment threat posed by existing development rights and protect mission-critical activities conducted at the WNY from encroachment.

During his 247th Navy birthday remarks, SECNAV announced that the Navy’s preferred location for the new National Museum of the United States Navy would be on land adjacent to the Washington Navy Yard that would be acquired either through a land exchange or direct purchase. SECNAV, Navy Museum Development Foundation (NMDF) Board President Al Konetzni, and NHHC Director Samuel J. Cox, unveiled a model of the future National Museum of the U.S. Navy.
